Mixed Feelings!

It’s hard to believe how fast time can fly sometimes. It seems like we just started the class yesterday, and today we have only one more class of Media Writing left. There is more work than I expected for this course, however, most of the assignments are fun and I learn a lot by taking this class. So, how do I feel that this class, this semester, this college life is nearly over? There are mixed feelings of excitement and anxious. I’ve always wanted to be done with school and start working in the real world, but when it’s almost over, I’m scared. The fear of graduating and not being able to find a job scares me. With a degree in Business in this current economy, I know it will be tough for me and other newly graduates to find a decent job. Well, no matter how challenges or how difficult the real world can be, I know I’ll always have support from family and friends to keep me going.

PS: Goodluck to all of my classmates.

The Rises of Airplane Tickets

U.S. airlines had to raise fees and fuel surcharges in order to survive due to the increased in fuel prices. However, with the increases, most airlines still suffer losses in income. Airlines had to cut down the number of flights to operate to reduce the usage of fuel. The cut has boosted the amount of fares to great amount. In my opinion, in order to encourage fliers to fly frequently, airlines should keep their prices at acceptable rate. This is to only raise fees that are necessary and bring down the fees when it is reasonable (when fuel prices go down); do not make consumers feel they are being ripped off. Several people argued that the airlines created an excuse (their prices went up because fuel prices went up) to overcharge fliers. So, what is your opinion?

What I really want to be...

When I was younger, I went through different phases of wanting to be a teacher, a dancer, an actor and a flight attendant. When I was a senior in High School, I wished I could become a social worker. I wanted to be able to help kids with family problems or any people who needed help.

However, Mrs. Lynn, a friend of my mother talked me out of it. Mrs. Lynn is a social worker for many years, she advised that the job required more than four years of college, and was a difficult job to find with low paying. I did not know if her information was relevant but I took her words and did not make my wish of becoming a social worker come true.

Now, at the age of 21, I have realized what I want to be the most is to be a happy person. I just want to live a simple life with the people I love, be around with great people and friends, have a stable job, and perhaps, be able to travel from time to time.

Micro-friction!

Mindless #2
12 x 10.5 / oil on panel

It is just another night that I walk into a room full with numerous familiar faces but they still seem like all strangers. It is just another night at a company party that I do not want to attend at all. It is a place where people put on their fake masks to socialize with people that deep down; they do not care for at all.

Like any other company parties, I slowly walk to the bar and ask for a cocktail. I enjoyingly taking small sips from my favorite drink and heading to the balcony. It is a windy day and the sky seems so dark that I can clearly see the stars.

The wind gently blowing my hair as I sipping through my drink; it should be a relaxing and calming night for me. However, the thoughts of meeting all kind off deadlines at work tomorrow awoke my peaceful sole. I sadly sigh, quickly finish up my drink and walk to the exit door before anyone notice.

Rising Gas Prices!

It is a little suspicious to me to see how after couple days after the Hurricane Katrina, our gas prices went up. I was wondering if the gasoline companies are using the Hurricane as an excuse to raise the prices or there is really a “gas” shortage. Whatever the case might be, I am hoping that the President will do something about the situation or we will continue to suffer.

I am a commute student but the gas prices do not hurt me as much because I only commute to school twice a week and I work only 15 minutes from home. Nonetheless, many other people are hurt deeply by the change in prices. For examples, some people are forced to change jobs because they cannot afford to travel far for work. Also, they have to make careful plans to carpool with others and cutting down driving to save gas. This is going to be a bigger problem if the gas prices keep going up and our wages keep remaining the same.

Some argued that we are living in a supply and demand market, the more we demand the higher the market will set its price. So, if we want the prices to drop, then we should drive less. However, some of us have no other choices since the areas where we live do not offer other options for transportation. We do not have subways, trains, or buses to help us get to places. We all know that the gas prices are outrageous but we still have to fill it up every week to go to necessary places.

PS: www.gasbuddy.com <- here is a website that helps you find the highest and lowest gas prices in any area.
